Back in the 70’s my sister was so tall she had a hard time finding long enough so she would find beautiful embroidered ribbons and would add them to the bottom of her bell bottoms. This reminded me of her cool creations. She also added a triangle of denim to the center back cause she loved a wide bell.

Love the embroidery. Watching you stitch it reminded me of my youth. We couldn't sit down to watch TV unless we were doing some "fancy work", which usually meant embroidering dish towels or pillow cases.

My recently widowed friend and I used your videos to rework the necklines on her husband’s cashmere jumpers to make them more feminine. She wears them all the time as it helps her to feel connected to him. We also used his t-shirts to make patchwork memory cushions for his grandchildren and nearest and dearest. She and I spent some lovely afternoons sewing, chatting and remembering her husband. I resolved a few years ago not to buy any new clothes (I’ve only bought a pair of decent hiking socks). I am currently wearing my son’s socks, underpants made from a t-shirt, my husband’s shorts, a t-shirt gift and a sweatshirt that my daughter was donating…..the only item that is my own is my bra! Thank you for your inspiration. I wholeheartedly agree with your ethos.

This is pure gold! Thank you Catherine! Could you tackle turning skinny jeans into straight legs? Could the slit be done at the side seam or have no slit at all? I’ve got a stack of skinny jeans that look terrible on me and I would love to alter them into something I would actually wear. Thank you in advance!

I made my daughter a pair of bell bottoms with some material she found in my stash. Embroidery around it would be so cute! A tip for tangles in your floss is to separate each strand and run it through beeswax and then put the three strands back together. It conditions the floss.

Yes to letting go of all the negative comments!!!! I’m 52 and have been thrifting and up cycling not only clothing but furniture and more, too, since I’m 16. Sometimes I change things up and sometimes just loving it as is. People never believe me I thrift my stuff because people not only donate/throw away beautiful new or not much worn and in perfect condition stuff…I look like a million bucks, for real😂😂 Your explanations and passion for thrifting/up-cycling are not only 100% legit but every one has a hobby that they enjoy and not everyone has to like or agree with. Keep doing what you are doing!
